Assam police on February 3rd, 2020, arrested two persons in connection with a fund embezzlement case. The accused persons have been identified as Khairul Alom Mia, 56 and Bhupati Barman, 51.
Khairul is a former Member of Hatidhura Zilla Parishad of Pokalagi village in Dhubri and Bhupati Barman (51), Junior Engineer, Dhubri Zilla Parishad. Barman, who is presently posted at Bongaigaon district, hails from Nankargaon village in Bongaigaon.
“During the investigation, Bhupati Barman had prepared an estimate for the works for construction of the boundary wall of Kukiladanga Burial Ground under Hatidhura ZPC under 13th Finance Commission for the year 2013-14, phase – II for Rs 8,00,000. Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Dhubri had sanctioned an amount of Rs 7,00,000 for implementation of the scheme. But, Barman in connivance with Khairul Alom Mia had neither executed the plan nor constructed any boundary wall and submitted fake bills and utilisation certificate purportedly showing the execution of works and misappropriated government fund by causing wrongful loss to the government and corresponding illegal gain for themselves,” a press communiqué stated.
The accused persons were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Moslem Uddin Ahmed, president of Human Rights Council of India.
A case (Vigilance PS Case No 01/2020) has been registered against both the accused persons and forwarded to the court.
