Jatinga Bird Festival: Stern Actions Will Be Taken Against Unlawful Activities, Says Dima Hasao DC

We oppose the activities that hamper the environment including wildlife; not the festival: Daniel Langthasa

The Dima Hasao deputy commission stated that stern actions would be taken against ‘unlawful activities’ in the Jatinga Bird Festival which might hurt or disorient the exotic migratory bird.

The DC directed the Superintendent of Police following a complaint lodged by Daniel Langthasa, member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, on October 22nd, 2019, to take appropriate actions against the council and any person if found violating the order against ‘unlawful activities’ in the ongoing Jatinga Bird Festival.

“We are not against the festival. It is much needed to promote tourism. But, we are against holding musical concerts, extravagant activities with powered halogen and led lights till late at night. Because it is the season of the natural migration of birds. These activities disorient the birds,” Langthasa said while speaking to Time8.

Emphasizing the importance of promotion of tourism, Langthasa said, “Any responsible citizen of the district will support activities which will boost Dima Hasao tourism but will oppose any activity which will hamper the environment or the exotic migratory birds that come every year in course of their natural migration.”

On October 3rd, 2019 the Dima Hasao DC issued a prohibitory order banning activities which may directly or indirectly hamper the coming of the migratory birds in Jatinga and adjacent areas. The DC again on October 22nd, 2019, stated that stern action will be taken against persons violating the order.

The festival, which began on October 20th, will end on 24th, 2019.
