Guwahati: Three more people in Assam died due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) on July 20th, 2019, taking the toll to 104 in the state, a daily National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin stated.
One death was reported from Kokrajhar and two were reported from Sonitpur. The deceased persons were undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
The number of Japanese Encephalitis-positive cases increased to 459, as 20 new ones were registered, the bulletin said. Japanese encephalitis is a virus spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes. It’s more common in rural and agricultural areas. The NHM bulletin further informed that cumulative figures for Japanese Encephalitis/AES (Acute Encephalitis Syndrome) deaths in the state since the outbreak is 231, while the number of JE/AES-positive cases during this period stood at 1637.
