In a first, the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 25th, 2019 with the Times Group to organize the glitzy and glamourous Filmfare Awards in Guwahati. This is the very first time that the event will take place outside Mumbai.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal signed the MoU with Times Group’s Vineet Jain in presence of Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, ATDC chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah along with a host of local celebrities.
The main aim to host the Filmfare Awards ceremony in Guwahati is to boost the tourism sector of the state. The 65th edition of the awards show is likely to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Amingaon.
Speaking at the occasion, Baruah said that the Times Group will contribute 50 per cent of the revenue earned from the tickets to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. “This event is going to bridge a familial bonding between the Bollywood cinema and the Assamese film industry,” the ATDC chairman said.
The awards programme will surely be a delight for the locals as they will get to see their favourite Bollywood stars take the stage at one of the oldest and most prestigious film events in India.
The Filmfare Awards are a set of awards that honour artistic and technical excellence in the Hindi-language film industry of the country, aka Bollywood. The Filmfare Awards were first introduced in 1954 and are voted on by both the public and a committee of experts.
