Islamic Militant Outfit JMB Issues Threat Letter Against Himanta Biswa Sarma

A handwritten letter addressed to the Satradhikar of Moinabari Satra was received on the entrance door of the Satra on January 5th, 2020

The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen(JMB), an Islamic terrorist organisation operating in Bangladesh has reportedly threatened Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Tourism Development Council chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah and son of a Moinabari Satra’s Satradhikar, Apurba Borpujari of dire consequences.

According to Apurba Borpujari, a handwritten letter addressed to the Satradhikar of Moinabari Satra was received on the entrance door of the Satra on January 5th, 2020. The letter was written by one Jeherul Islam on behalf of the Assam unit of the banned militant group.

“I received the letter on January 5 and thought that it was some random invitation and kept it aside inside my car. Later, when I opened the letter it had several objectionable contents. It said that I, the Assam Minister and the ATDC chairman are enemies of Islam. It also threatened me regarding a news item published way back in 2006. There were threats of the kidnapping of Satradhikar’s niece and death threats,” Borpujari said.

He further informed that a case has been filed at Sarbhog police station in connection with the letter.

Meanwhile, police sources informed that the letter has been sent for forensic tests and are trying to furbish its authenticity. There are suspicions that the sender might some local miscreant.

It may be mentioned that the Assam police had arrested several JMB operatives from lower Assam’s Nalbari and Barpeta districts last year.
