India’s Consul General to the United States in New York City, Sandeep Chakravorty, has called for an “Israeli” model in Jammu & Kashmir so that the Hindu population taking refugees in the US, other parts of the world can return back to their homeland.
The Consul General was addressing to the Kashmiri Pandits and Indian nationals in NYC at a private event organized for Indian filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s upcoming project on the forced displacement of Kashmiri Hindus in the early 1990s, the Kashmir Media Service reported.
“I was at an event and people were talking about the Kashmiris and the J&K coming under the direct rule of the central govt. People should go beneath the reasoning and understand why it was done by the leader.” Chakravorty was heard saying in a video shared by Middle East Eye.
“Somebody was also talking about the Jewish and Isreal issue. They kept their culture alive for 2000 years outside of the land and they went back. I think we have to keep the Kashmiri culture alive, the Kashmiri culture is the Indian culture, it is a Hindu culture…..We should think like others. We have never used our Hindu culture of ancient civilization,” he added.
The Consul General further added, “We will have our land back….I don’t know why we don’t follow it. It has happened in the Middle East. If the Israeli people can do it, we can also do it. We have to push our leadership.” referring to the illegal settlements implemented by Israel to occupy Palestine.
It may be mentioned that on August 5th, 2019 the Modi-led Indian Government revoked the special status, granted under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir. A part of the larger region of Kashmir had been the subject of dispute between India, Pakistan, and China since 1947.
