The preparations for the much-awaited fourth edition of the ‘India International Cherry Blossom Festival 2019’ have begun in Meghalaya. To upscale the event, the Conrad K Sangma government for the first-time-ever is planning to collaborate with South Korea.
Sangma on August 19th, 2019 held meetings with officials and Minister Forest Lahkmen Rymbui, Health Minister A L Hek in preparation to host the India International Cherry Blossom festival 2019.
Cherry blossom festivals in India are held during October-November when Prunus cerasoides blooms, making it the world’s only autumn cherry blossom festivals.
The four-day festival celebrates the unique autumn flowering of Himalayan Cherry Blossoms, complimented by several sports and cultural events at the picturesque city of Shillong. Last year, the opening ceremony of the festival was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to India, Kenji Hiramatsu at the Polo Ground.
Fashion shows, rock concerts, beauty pageants, food stalls, handloom and handicraft stalls are lined up to promote the state’s rich culture and attract tourists.
