The Arunachal Pradesh government has sought necessary inputs on banning the massively popular online multiplayer battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
Habung Lampung, Secretary (Home), Government of Arunachal Pradesh has dashed off a letter to Commissioner (Law & Justice), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Secretary (IT & C), Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Director General of Police, Arunachal Pradesh and sought inter-departmental inputs to ban the online game in the state.
The letter dated July 26th, 2019 also mentioned that Governor’s Secretariat has already initiated dialogue on the issue. A letter related to the matter was sent to the Home Department on June 13th, 2019.
The globally popular smartphone games have been developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole. PUBG Mobile was launched last year for iOS and Android devices and has since become a pop culture icon.
The game has been banned in several cities of India and other countries. The National Child Rights Commission has recommended barring the game for its violent nature.
It may be noted, the online video game addiction has recently been in the midst of several controversies after the World Health Organisation officially included gaming disorder as a disease in ICD 11.
