In A First, Anurag Kashyap To Present Assamese Film ‘Aamis’

Aamis motivated Anurag Kashyap to try all kinds of forbidden food and he went on a spree to taste all kinds of meat while he was in South Africa

Bhaskar Hazarika’s Aamis won hearts of many at its film festivals run and at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York earlier this year it got awarded as the Best Film including being nominated for five categories. Aamis is coming home in the month of November and it will be presented by renowned Bollywood producer and director Anurag Kashyap.

This will be the first time that Kashyap known for his unique vision in terms of storytelling in films will present a film from the Northeast.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Kashyap shared this news and wrote, “It gives me great pleasure to say that I am presenting a film from Assam for the first time. Aamis is releasing on November 22nd, 2019. Hope you will catch the dark love story at screens near you.”

The film’s official Twitter handle on October 15th, 2019 shared a video, where Kashyap was seen savouring an authentic Assamese cuisine which included, Omita Khar (papaya alkali), chilly pork curry, sesame chicken and masor tenga (tangy fish curry). He said, “You must be wondering why I am eating lovely Axomiya food. Because for the first time I am presenting an Assamese film which is all about love and food and it’s called Aamis.”

He further mentioned that after watching the film he was driven by a bug to try all kinds of forbidden food so much so that he tried all kinds of meat in South Africa while he was shooting Sacred Games, the popular India web thriller series which is available on Netflix.

He further said, “Trust me you have not seen anything like Aamis coming out of India. The film releases on November 22nd, 2019.”

Aamis tells the story of a man and a woman who build up a bond over their love for food which later turns bizarre and dark.

Written and directed Hazarika, the film is shot entirely in Guwahati and the cast includes, Arghadeep Baruah, Lima Das, Neetali Das, Manash Das and Sagar Sourav.
