The Assam Police arrested four persons including two females over their alleged links with the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), led by fugitive Paresh Baruah.
Kanak Pegu, who was working as a ward boy in a private hospital in Dibrugarh, was arrested on August 7th, 2019. He hails from Golaghat district.
Chayanika Kamang, who was working as a teacher at Arohan Academy, was arrested from Golaghat. Kabita Kamang, a banking student from Dibrugarh, and Debojyoti Duarah were arrested from Naharkatia in Dibrugarh.
Addressing the media here, Subhasini Shankaran, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police said, “Investigation is going on in full swing and the arrested persons are being interrogated. We have seized a flag of the militant organization, seven mobile phones and one Maoist literature book from their possession. More details will be revealed after the investigation is over.”
It may be mentioned that the Assam Police has earlier said that the rebel outfit is trying to motivate and influence the young minds, academically brilliant students to work as moles for various operational work like surveying targets through different techniques.
