    Heavy Rains, Landslides Wreak Havoc As Vehicles Get Stuck Along NH-10

    Guwahati: The continuous rainfall in Sikkim has continued to wreak havoc for commuters. Multiple landslides have resulted in the collapse of a National Highway (NH)10 road where commuters are facing a harrowing time. The NH-10 is a national highway that connects Indo/Bangladesh border via Siliguri to Gangtok. It passes through the Indian states of West Bengal and Sikkim.

    A vehicle enroute Sikkim got stuck in the mud along with the NH-10 resulting in a massive traffic jam. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded as the district administration rushed to the spot to clear debris from the road.

    Despite the serious efforts of the concerned authorities, the erratic weather is posing a hindrance in the clearing operations.

    It may be mentioned that thousands of people have been affected due to landslides in the Northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

    In Assam more than 26 lakh people have been affected by floods in 28 districts as on July 14th, 2019, even as the death toll rose to eleven. Around 85 relief camps have been set up for relief and rescue purposes.
