    Health Ministry Team Arrives In Sikkim To Check IEC Activities For Coronavirus

    A two-member high-level official from Health Ministry has arrived in Sikkim to check Information Education Communication(IEC) activities for the deadly infections of Coronavirus in villages bordering Nepal in West Sikkim.

    Two experts Dr Dipak Pal(Public Health Specialist), AIIHPH and Dr Rohit Saini(Physician), RMLH arrived at the Bagdogra airport and were directly headed towards the Dentam near to Nepal border.

    According to Dr Pemba Tshering Bhutia, DG cum Secretary, Health Department–the high-level team is slated to inspect the areas and get a knowledge of how the Panchayats work in the villages.

    He shared that on February 14th, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare decided that the villages in states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Sikkim and West Bengal will be impacted by Central Team to strengthen community-level IEC activities for the virus.

    Regarding screening of army personnel at Nathula and other bordering areas, Dr Pemba informed that as the rumours were circulated in social media last week that Indian Army stationed in Indo China Nathula border is prone to Coronavirus, they raised the issues in their regular video conferencing and that the matter has been taken up by the Ministry and they told they will coordinate with Ministry of Defence.

    Dr Pemba also updated on the present situation of Coronavirus outbreak and said a total of 71429 confirmed (2162 new) globally and in China 70635 confirmed (2051 new) with 1772 deaths ( 106 new) are reported. He also added that India has only three confirmed cases.
