Guwahati’s First COVID-19 Positive Case Reported In Zoo Road’s Spanish Garden

A well-known businessman became the first person to test positive for the novel coronavirus in Guwahati

With the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infected cases rising in Assam, Guwahati reported its first positive case on the night of April 3rd, 2020.

A well-known businessman became the first person to test positive for the novel coronavirus in Guwahati.

The infected person is a 34-year-old businessman from Nagaon district of Assam. He stays with his family at the posh Spanish Garden Apartments in Guwahati’s Zoo Road.

The businessman had travelled to Delhi 25 days ago but did not visit Nizamuddin or the area of Markaz during his stay in the national capital territory.

Based on the latest inputs, the health department has shifted him to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in the city.

The person is the first reported non-Nizamuddin infected case in Assam and the third in the entire Northeast.

As per officials, the person developed no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days after returning to Guwahati.

The officials have now initiated the process of quarantine and isolation for his family members. A contact tracking drive has also been launched to contain the spread of COVID-19.

So far, there are 24 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 in Assam and out of them, 23 are related to the Nizamuddin area of Delhi.

However, this is the first-ever case not related to the Tablighi Jamaat event and efforts to trace other such cases are on by the health department.
