    GP President Caught Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe In Assam’s Sonitpur

    The accused was accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 and a Bank cheque amounting Rs. 35,000 from one Dulal Nath

    The Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths caught the Amiyapur Gaon Panchayat president red-handed in Assam’s Sonitpur district while accepting a bribe from a person on December 20th, 2019.

    The accused has been identified as Julon Kumar Nath of Narengkati under Dhekiajuli Police Station in the district.

    The accused was accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 and a Bank cheque amounting Rs. 35,000 from one Dulal Nath of Posabasti village. The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused person.

    The accused person who is presently holding the position of the President, Amiyapur GP was demanding illegal gratification from the complainant in the pretext that he would clear a bill amounting Rs. 1,38,000 for the construction work of an RCC culvert under Madhabpur, Bongaon for which the complainant supplied materials, a press communiqué stated.

    As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe amount to the said public servant, he approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, and accordingly, a trap was laid in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 17/2019 under section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption act, 1988 (as amended 2018).

    The accused will be forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Assam, Guwahati on December 21st, 2019.
