    ‘Get, Set, Goal’: Guwahati To Host 6 Matches Of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020

    The final football tournament will be held at Mumbai

    Guwahati is among the five cities that will host the FIFA women’s football tournament this year. This is for the first time that India is hosting the game.

    The opening match of the football tournament will be held at Guwahati’s Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on November 2nd. The other venues include DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, Trans Stadia multi-purpose stadium in Ahmedabad and Kalinga a multi-purpose International stadium in Bhubaneswar.

    The final football tournament will be held at Mumbai.

    Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to inform the same.

    “It’s a matter of great pride that Guwahati has recently hosted some of the best sporting events held in the country. This says a lot about our determination to make the city India’s Sports Capital. Once again people of Assam will make it a grand success.” Sonowal wrote on Twitter.

    Thanking FIFA for allowing India to add an extra venue, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said that there is unlimited potential for growth of football in India and informed that they have picked up venues to hold the tournament that offers best logistics and sporting facilities.

    The 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the 7th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the biennial international women’s youth football championship contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 2008.

    The tournament will be held in India between November 2nd and 21st 2020. It will mark the first time that India has hosted a FIFA women’s football tournament.
