    Four Including Two ASHA Workers Arrested For Trading Baby In Guwahati

    Guwahati: Guwahati Police held four persons, including two Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers on charges of selling a six-month-old baby.

    According to police, a couple from Noonmati, Ram Pradhan and Dipali Pradhan bought the baby for Rs 80,000 from the baby’s biological father, Rafiqul Islam.

    After the baby went missing, the mother of the baby, Mofida Khatun registered a complaint with the police on July 10th, 2019. Almost after a month, the baby was recovered from Pradhan’s residence at Noonmati. The baby was handed over to the mother following a court order.

    The two ASHA workers who acted as middlemen are Purnima Newar of Fatasil Ambari and Rabina Begum of Santipur.

    “We have arrested four persons in connection with the case. Our search is on to nab the accused father of the baby who is presently absconding,” Suprotiva Lal Baruah, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati (West) told Time8.

    A case has been registered under sections 498 (A), 328, 363 and 370 of the IPC.
