Former Tezpur MP RP Sarmah Undecided Over Choice Of Party To Join

RP Sarmah had resigned from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party in March 2019

Former Tezpur Lok Sabha MP, Ram Prasad Sarmah is yet to take a call on joining a political party. Earlier, it was reported that he will join the Nitish Kumar led Janata Dal (United).

“I have still not decided which party to join but I will take the final call this month. I have received offers to join the Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). As a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker, there is no chance of joining the AIUDF,” Sarmah said.

Sarmah had resigned from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2019. In a Facebook post, the politician wrote that he felt insulted when his name did not find a place in the shortlisted panel of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

He added, “There is no question of going back to the BJP. The new leaders have damaged the BJP. They call the shots in the party.”

Sarmah has earlier said that the old BJP workers of Assam, who have been toiling for decades, are the most ‘neglected and ill-treated’ in the BJP by the ‘new intruders’ in the party.
