Former MLA Abdur Rouf Joins AIUDF Day After Resigning From Congress

The former Jania MLA said that Gandhian principles and ideologies no longer exist in the Congress party

Senior Congress leader and former Jania legislator Abdur Rouf have joined the perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal-led All Indian United Democratic Front (AIUDF)on October 7th, 2019. He resigned from the Congress party on October 6th, 2019 over conflicting statements by senior state leaders on the National Register of Citizens and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

“Ajmal-led AIUDF is working for the development and benefit of the minority people. It is only due to Ajmal that names of a majority of people belonging to the minority community were enlisted in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) list,” Rouf said.

He added, “Lobby and family-centric politics has become so deep that Gandhian principles and ideologies no longer exist in the Congress party. That’s why I decided to work with AIUDF.” Post his joining, Ajmal exuded the confidence of winning Jania bypoll.

The Jania seat fell vacant after Abdul Khaleque of Congress was elected as the Lok Sabha MP in May this year. AIUDF’s Hafiz Rafikul Islam is going to contest from Jania in the upcoming by-election which will held on October 21st, 2019.
