    Former Meghalaya CM’s Son Balajied Kupar Synrem Wins Shella Seat

    The Shella seat fell vacant after the death of the sitting MLA Donkupar Roy on July 28th, 2019

    The son of former Meghalaya Chief Minister, Balajied Kupar Synrem has won from Shella Assembly constituency on October 24th, 2019.

    The seat in the East Khasi Hills district fell vacant following the death of Synrem’s father Donkupar Roy, who was the sitting MLA, in July 28th, 2019. Roy was MLA of Shella since 1988. He was also the president of the United Democratic Party. 

    Synrem won after defeating his opponents by a huge margin of 6,221 votes. Synrem secured 12002 votes, the newsnation.in reported.

    A total of six candidates were in the fray for the seat. Apart from Synrem, Batyngshain Laitmon Ryngnga (Congress), Joshua Warjri (Bharatiya Janata Party), Mosjo Rock F Wanswett (People’s Democratic Front), Grace Mary Kharpuri (Independent) and Komen Laitmon (Independent) were contesting for the Shella seat.
