    FIRs Lodged Against Prateek Hajela Over Exclusion Of Indigenous People From Final NRC List

    A case (No 1469) under sections 19, 120B, 166 and 167 of the IPC has been registered at the Geetanagar Police Station

    The All Assam Goriya Moriya Youth Students’ Federation on September 4th, 2019, lodged a complaint against the state coordinator for National Register of Citizens (NRC) Prateek Hajela. The organization claimed that a huge number of people belonging to various indigenous groups of the state despite providing sufficient relevant linkage documents have been excluded from the list.

    Slamming Hajela, the organization leaders said, “Hejala has removed the defense personnel of the state, who has been serving the nation, from the final NRC list.” Talking about the various irregularities, the leadership of the organization said, “Hajela is responsible for everything.” The leaders of the organization demanded a probe in the matter. However, no case has been registered till the report is being filed, officer in-charge of the Latashil Police Station, Upen Kalita said.

    Meanwhile, the Assam Public Works (APW) lodged an FIR with the Geetanagar police in the city alleging inclusion of illegal Bangladeshis names in the final NRC in Marigaon’s Mikirbheta. The OC of the police station Sidananda Bora informed that the case would be transferred to the Mikirbheta police station. A case (No 1469) under sections 19, 120B, 166 and 167 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the police station.
