Fight Between Two Cotton College Hostel Mates: Kokrajhar SP On Viral Video

The Assam government has directed the Commissioner of Lower Assam Division to cause an inquiry to the alleged incident

A day after a video went viral on social media platforms showing Rajen Singh, the superintendent of police (SP) in Assam’s Kokrajhar district allegedly assaulting ACS officer Sailen Das inside a hotel complex, the former said that “it was an incident between two hostel mates of Cotton College”.

Speaking to media persons in Kokrajkhar on September 21st, 2019, Singh said, “It (the fight) was not related to any inter-service issue. I know him (Das) for a long time; we were hostel mates.” The top cop said they used to stay in the Rajani Kanta Bordoloi Boys’ Hostel while pursuing their graduation at then Cotton College in Guwahati.

The incident happened on the intervening night of September 9th and 10th, 2019, however, the incident came to light only recently.

It may be mentioned that the Assam government has directed the Commissioner of Lower Assam Division to cause an inquiry to the alleged incident of physical assault inflicted on an ACS Officer by the SP of Kokrajhar district and submit a report within September 25th, 2019.

“An investigation is on over the entire incident and hopefully the report will reveal the truth,” he added while refusing to comment on the assault incident.

As per the footage compiled from various CCTV cameras installed in and around the Hotel Gaurang Valley in Kokrajhar, Singh is allegedly seen dragging out Das by his collar from inside the hotel and slapping him in the parking lot.
