Facebook Lover Abandons Girl, Flees With Jewellery, Cash In Assam

An FIR has been lodged with the Naharkatia police by the girl’s family

A girl from Tingkhong town in Dibrugarh district was left shattered after her lover abandoned her and fled with all her money and gold ornaments from the town area committee.

Rashmi(name changed), resident of No 1 Puali Pathar village of the town and Raju Gogoi alias Nitul Gogoi from Sivasagar district’s Demow met on popular social networking site Facebook last month and their love started to brew. Nitul introduced the girl that he hailed from Guwahati and was deployed at the Assam police.

However, things took a U-turn after the man on August 26th, 2019 reached the girl’s village to meet her and eventually forced her to elope with him.

“We first took the bus to Duliajan, then he took me to Dimapur and locked me in a hotel. I was surprised when he vehemently took all my cash and jewellery. When i asked him to marry me he brought me back to my hometown, abandoned me and left,” said the girl.

The girl having no other choice reached the local police station and reiterated about the episodic incident. She was later handed over to her family members.

An FIR was subsequently lodged with the Naharkatia police by the girl’s family.

“We have got to know that he(Nitul) is very shrewd and has had a lot of similar cases levied against him. He has ruined lives of many girls. He claims that he works in the police force but there is official affirmation,” said the girl’s father.

Based on the complaint the police have started an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the girl’s family has suspected that Nitul might have eloped with a married woman (mother to one) who has gone missing since a few days.
