Guwahati: With coronavirus cases increasing day by day and also, the lockdown being withdrawn in a phased manner, the transport department on Monday carried out a drive against commercial passenger vehicles which were allegedly violating the COVID-19 norms.
Official sources said that although the vehicles are allowed to ply on a regular basis for the people commuting, there are allegations of several vehicles no following norms. Most of the time, the share taxis and the private buses are moving without sanitizations and also they are allegedly carrying passengers without maintaining social distancing.
The department on Monday has launched a special drive to check such erring vehicles.
It is mandatory for vehicles to be sanitized and also maintain social distancing in while the ply regularly but it has been noticed that some vehicles are still not maintaining the basic rules and to contain these, the drive is being launched. The erring vehicles will be fined and also if found to be involved in serious offences, the vehicle might also be impounded.
It may be mentioned that the documents of the vehicles might be checked but they might not be fined for expired documents due to the pandemic outbreak.
