Based on specific inputs, the Nagaon police arrested a dreaded rhino poacher at Ghunabari area in Nagaon’s Rupahihat. Police recovered a .303 rifle in disassembled form, eight rounds of live ammunition and a silencer from the possession of the accused.
The accused, who has been identified as Mohammed Abu Hasem (35), was arrested in the evening hours of October 28th, 2019. He hails from Kaoimari in Samaguri.
Speaking to the media persons, the Nagaon Superintendent of Police Shankar Brata Raimedhi said, “We laid a naka on the basis of special inputs about movement of the rhino poacher equipped with arms. Later, in the evening hours, our troop nabbed him along with a .303 rifle in disassembled form and live ammunition.”
Talking about the preliminary investigation, Raimedhi said, “He (accused) has confessed during interrogation about his plan of rhino poaching. However, his associates are on the run. They are not in Nagaon district. We will continue the operation to nab them soon.”
He further said, “There were a number of cases against him. We were not able to nab him. But, this time we caught him along with arms.”
