Dhubri Man Receives Over Rs 79 Lakh Electricity Bill, Officials Admit Mistake

Chapar: A man was given a shock by the state electricity department which generated a bill of Rs 79,79,830. Moinul Haque was asked to pay the huge amount for the billing which was done for 30 days from June 2nd, 2019 to July 1st, 2019 on the basis that 9,99,867units of power was consumed.

Haque received the bill from the Chapar Electricity Board in Dhubri district of Assam. Haque, who owns an optical shop, is a resident of Kazipara village in Chapar circle. The bill was issued against his shop ‘Jyoti Optical’ which is located in a building owned by Ahajuddin Ahmmed. The bill was generated under Ahmmed’s name.

“I was shocked when I received the bill. I checked it several times to confirm the mentioned bill amount. I immediately contacted the concerned officials to verify the bill. There are only two fans, six CFL bulbs and an inverter in my shop,” said Haque.

He added, “The officials told me that there had been a mistake in generating the bill. They assured me that they will rectify and send me a fresh bill. I believe there was a mistake in keying in the number of units consumed. The officials should be careful.”
