Bollywood star Deepika Padukone visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for publicity and limelight, said Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on January 9th, 2020.
Deepika visited JNU on January 7th, 2020 and met students and faculty members injured in January 5th, 2020 violence. Although the Chhapaak star did not speak at the university or interacted with the media, she was seen interacting with injured JNU Students Union president Aishe Ghosh.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Sarma said, “She visited the JNU to garner publicity without investment ahead of her film release.”
Deepika’s upcoming film Chhapaak, based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, is slated to release on January 10th, 2020.
The Minister further slammed the Left for creating an atmosphere of intolerance in the educational institutes.
The actor visiting the JNU created a stir, leaving Twitter divided. She was slammed as several trolls called her visit to JNU a PR stunt for her film. However, another section came forward and lauded her for showing solidarity with the students.
