Guwahati: A person allegedly declared ‘dead’ came back to life in the ‘morgue’ of LGB Civil Hospital of Assam’s Tinsukia district. As per reports, the man identified as Mohammed Hussain was declared ‘dead’ by the doctors after he was admitted to the hospital on July 31st, 2019 owing to health complaints.
“The hospital authorities told us he had died. We found him alive along with two other patients under treatment when we went to collect his body,” the patient’s wife told Time8.
The incident triggered a sensation as locals raised slogans and demanded a probe into the alleged negligence.
Meanwhile, the hospital superintendent, NC Mahanta has accepted lapses on part of his medical team. “We do not have a morgue in the hospital. Hussain was kept in the isolated ward where we keep unidentified patients,” Mahanta told Time8. Hussain of Hijuguri has now been sent to the Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh.
On the other hand, All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) lambasted the hospital authorities over the incident. Terming the incident as “very unfortunate”, the students’ body has demanded a high-level probe into the matter. They also submitted a memorandum to Assam Cheif Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“The superintendent of the hospital along with other staff members should immediately resign from their posts,” AAMSU said.
