The Supreme Court on March 23rd, 2020 stated that it was mulling over shutting down its functioning and considering to hear urgent matters through video conferencing due to coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.
The All lawyers’ chambers in and around the top court premises would be sealed by March 24th, 2020, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said.
The Bench further mentioned that the apex court administration would temporarily cancel all proximity cards to dissuade lawyers from coming to the court.
Lawyers would only be allowed to enter the court premises for urgent reasons until further orders.
The lawyers and advocates working in the Supreme Court will not be working until April 4th, 2020.
The members of the Bar, office staff and the Supreme Court registry staff would also not be working till April 4th, 2020 in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
