The Assam Government on March 23rd, 2020, said that the people entering the state from other states would be stamped and made to undergo home quarantine for 14 days as a measure to prevent the spread of lethal coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

However, Assam has not registered any cases of the virus so far. Informing that, the state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the lockdown in the state with effect from 6 pm on March 24th, 2020 to March 31st, 2020. However, the minister said that essential services and commodities will remain available during the lockdown.

India has reported a total of 424 positive cases so far, after 30 fresh cases were reported, according to Health Ministry data. The figure includes 40 foreign nationals and the seven deaths reported so far. The 424 figure also includes 35 people who have been cured, discharged or migrated, it said. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 18,383 samples have been tested till 10 am on Monday
