    COVID-19 Lockdown In India Extended Till May 3

    Till 20 April, harsh steps will be taken to contain the spread of COVID-19: PM Modi

    The nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been extended till May 3rd, 2020.

    The lockdown 2.0 will come into effect from April 14th, 2020 till May 3rd, 2020. This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on April 14th, 2020.

    “We will be implementing lockdown even more strictly till April 20th, 2020. Some restrictions may be eased in places where there are no hotspots after that date. We must keep a close watch on places where new hotspots may emerge,” Modi said.

    Modi had earlier announced 21-day lockdown on March 25th, 2020 to break the transmission of COVID-19, which has affected over 10,000 people in India so far. The lockdown was scheduled to end on April 14th, 2020.

    Modi urged people to follow the lockdown till May 3rd, 2020 with “utmost vigilance”. The Prime Minister also announced lockdown relaxations for daily wagers who have suffered a severe blow due to the unprecedented lockdown.

    The Prime Minister mentioned that the government will release detailed guidelines on the extended lockdown. Urging people not to panic, he also assured there is enough ration and stock of essential commodities in the country. 

    “People have gone through hardships to save India. I am aware of how many difficulties you must have faced…I bow to the people of India for their sacrifice to fight against COVID-19. It is because of your efforts that we are able to continue our continue against COVID-19,” Modi said.

    He added, “COVID-19 is spreading fast but India’s fight against coronavirus is going strong. I also urge people to respect corona warriors like the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, sanitization workers and police personnel. Please be kind to people who work with you in your business and industry. Kindly, do not terminate your employees.”
