    COVID-19: All Trains Cancelled On Mar 22; Uber, Ola Suspend Pool Ride Service

    All mail and express trains will stop services from 4 am to 10 pm on March 22nd, 2020 while all suburban train services will be reduced to a bare minimum

    The Indian Railways has cancelled all train services on March 22nd, 2020 in view of the ‘Janata Curfew’ called by prime minister Narendra Modi to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19.

    All mail and express trains will stop services from 4 am to 10 pm on March 22nd, 2020 while all suburban train services will be reduced to a bare minimum.

    According to an order issued by the Indian Railways, all passenger trains originating between midnight of March 21st-March 22nd, 2020 to 10 pm on March 22nd, 2020 (approximately 2,400 services) shall not be run.

    Modi also appealed the people to impose a self curfew on March 22nd, 2020 to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

    Indian Railways has taken a slew of measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 virus. Of 55 different categories which were entitled for concession, now only 23 subcategories under Patients, Students and Divyangjans will continue to avail concessions for both Unreserved & Reserved segments from March 20th, 2020.

    On the other hand, cab-hailing companies Uber and Ola announced that they have suspended pool ride services across India in the wake of growing new coronavirus fears.

    “The health and safety of our driver-partners and customers are of utmost importance and we have taken several steps in this regard to ensure the highest levels of hygiene are maintained in the vehicles on the platform. The temporary suspension of Ola Share services is an attempt to encourage social distancing for all cases of essential travel for citizens,” Ola said in a statement.

    The ride-hailing platforms witnessed a huge drop in its pool service as people refrained from sharing the rides with strangers as coronavirus cases surged in the country.

    The company said it will continue to provide Micro, Mini, and Prime as well as rental and outstation services rides.
