    Coronavirus: Cotton University Prepares Its Own Hand Sanitizers

    There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus

    As concern about coronavirus pandemic grows, hand sanitizer is in high demand. A sudden spurt in demand for hand sanitizers has led to a massive increase in prices across the country.

    Hand sanitizers have even gone out of stock in some places. As the markets are facing a crunch, The Department of Chemistry, Cotton University has prepared a hand sanitizer solution to be used in various branches and departments of the University.

    Under the initiative of Vice Chancellor Prof Bhabesh Ch Goswami, the department has prepared it to be used as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

    Prof Goswami has inaugurated the use of the sanitizer in the Chemistry department in the presence of Registrar Prof Diganta Kr. Das, Head of the Department of Chemistry Dr Prahas Ch Sarma, coordinator of the project Dr Manjit Kr Bhattacharya and others.

    Dr Sangeeta Agarwal of the department and research scholars Hiren Nath, Amal Das, Bidyut Das and Pranoy Sarma worked in the project.

    Health experts advised to wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

    Use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
