Congress has already finalised its candidates for the by-elections to be held on October 21st, 2019. Keshab Prasad Rajak will contest from Ratabari-SC, Shamsul Hoque from Jania, Kartik Kurmi from Rangapara and Sushil Suri from Sonari.
Sonari, Rangapara, Ratabari and Jania- represented by Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Pallab Lochan Das, Kripanath Malla of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress’ Abdul Khaleque – fell vacant after the Lok Sabha elections this year. Gogoi, who was the Assam Power Minister, won from the Jorhat parliamentary seat, Das, who was the Assam Labour Welfare Minister, won from the Tezpur parliamentary seat. On the other hand, Khaleque won from the Barpeta parliamentary constituency and Mallah, who was the Deputy Speaker, won from Karimganj (SC) parliamentary seat.
