    CM Sonowal To Visit Kaziranga Tomorrow, 83 Wildlife Deaths Reported Since July 13

    The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will visit the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on July 19th, 2019 to take stock of the flood situation. A total of 95 per cent of the park – the UNESCO heritage site – was reeling under floodwaters.

    However, according to official data, the flood water level is falling in the park and it receded approximately 105 cm as reported by the DFO, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Kaziranga. A total of 83 wildlife deaths have been reported since July 13th, 2019.

    The floodwaters have receded in some parts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s report, a total of 5,352,107 people and 4,778,238 animals have been still affected in across 103 revenue circles in 28 out of 33 villages in the state.

    Addressing a press conference in Golaghat, Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said that the state government is planning to launch crop insurance for the welfare of the farmers of the state. “The state government has approved the sanction of Rs 35.30 crore to the Agriculture Department for the welfare of the farmers of the state,” Bora said.

    He further said, “Golaghat is one of the worst affected districts in the state. The government has provided ex-gratia to the families of the people who have died in the flood.”

    Talking on the flood relief and medical assistance, the minister said, “The flood relief has been provided to the flood-affected people. One National Disaster Response Force battalion and two State Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed in the district. On the other hand, at least 38 medical teams have been deployed in the district.”

    “The repair works of the damaged/ partially damaged embankments are also started,” Bora said.
