CBI Team To Visit Tripura To Probe Rose Valley Chit Fund Scam, Murder Of Journalists

Journalists Santanu Bhowmik and Sudip Datta Bhowmik were killed last year in west Tripura

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on September 26th, 2019 met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed about expediting Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the multi-crore Rose Valley chit fund and murder of journalists. Shah informed Deb that a team of the CBI will soon visit the state to probe both the cases.

The Rose Valley has been alleged of embezzling over Rs 1000 crore. Deb had earlier said that his government would sell properties of chit fund companies to give refunds to fraud victims.

The Chief Minister assured that the victims of the chit fund will get justice post the investigation. Deb mentioned that following his request, Shah has instructed top officials to expedite investigation for both the cases. “It is expected that in few days CBI will come to Tripura in this regard. The culprits involved in both cases should get severe punishment,” Deb tweeted.

The Rose Valley scam was even bigger than the Saradha scam. Rs 17,520 crore was reportedly raised from investors across India. The scam rocked West Bengal in 2013.

On the other hand, journalists Santanu Bhowmik and Sudip Datta Bhowmik were killed last year in west Tripura. Santanu was hacked to death on September 20th, 2018 at Mandwai, while Sudip was shot dead at the office of the Commandant (CO) of the 2nd battalion of Tripura State Rifles on November 21st, 2019.
