Commuters using bus services get ready to shell out more money. The Assam cabinet has decided to increase the bus fares in the state by 25 per cent.
The Assam Governor on November 20th, 2019 has issued directions to the state and regional transport authorities regarding fixing of maximum fare with an increase of 25 per cent against the existing fare realizable for different categories of vehicles.
As per the new rate card, the minimum fare of city buses will be Rs 8 (till 5 km), previously it was Rs 7. Rs 10.94 for 5-9 km; Rs 14.85 for 9-13 km; Rs 18.75 km for 13-17 km; Rs 22.66 for 17-21 km and Rs 26.56 for 21-25 km.
People travelling in Long Route Bus will have to pay Rs 1.33 per km; Rs 1.54 per km for AC bus and Rs 10. 94 (first 5 km) for Low Floor City Bus.
The All Assam Motor Transport Association had announced to increase the fares to 40 per cent owing to the hike in fuel prices. However, later the association and the state government agreed to hike the bus fares by 25 per cent from the current price. It may be mentioned here that the bus fares in the state were increased by 30 per cent in October last year.
