The family members of a cadre of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent, ULFA-I have taken to the streets to express their concern over their son going underground for almost two years now.
Arunabh Gogoi who is also known as Nibaran Asom originally hails from Lakili Village under Charaipung Police Station, Charaideo district. He took up arms in 2018. A video was also believed to be released by the youth soon after he had joined the armed group.
Arunabh’s family on January 13th, 2020 staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Charaideo Deputy Commissioner’s Office making an appeal to their son to give up arms and join the mainstream. The family further threatened to commit mass suicide if their appeals remain unheard.
The family members held placards like “the ULFA should free Arunabh”, “We wanted you to be a good man not to turn into an anti-national” and sat for a protest.
“We request the ULFA-I leader Paresh Baruah to send our son back home for the sake of our family. He has been missing since 2018 and we are still awaiting his presence” sid Arunabh’s mother breaking into tears.
The ULFA-I is a designated terrorist organisation operating in Assam. It seeks to establish an independent state of Assam with armed struggle in the Assam conflict.
