    Rs 700 Per Month For Hostel Boarders Of Govt Colleges, Universities In Assam

    The subsidy will be for 10 months in one academic year

    Assam Finance and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 22nd, 2020 announced a subsidy on mess dues of the boarders in hostels in government, provincialised colleges and State universities.

    Sarma officially launched the subsidy scheme on mess dues of the boarders in the hostels in a meeting held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.

    As per the scheme, which was announced by the Assam government in August 2019, a subsidy of Rs 700 will be provided every month through direct benefit transfer on dues of each student staying in hostels of government, provincialised colleges and State universities.

    The Assam Higher Education department had asked the principals of the colleges and registrars of the varsities to submit their proposal.

    The subsidy will be for 10 months in one academic year. The Minister said that more than 20,000 students will be benefited under the scheme and the amount will directly be transferred to their respective bank accounts.

    The scheme will be operational from February this year. From April 1st, 2020, the engineering and medical college students will be brought under the ambit of the scheme.
