    Over 20 Injured As Lokmanya Tilak Express Derails Near Cuttack

    The derailment occurred at around 7 am between Salagaon and Nergundi stations

    A major rail mishap took place near Cuttack in Odisha on January 16th, 2020, due to dense fog. The Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Express hit a goods train leading to the derailment of eight coaches.

    As per initial reports, over 20 passengers were injured in the accident. The derailment occurred at around 7 am between Salagaon and Nergundi stations and around 500 passengers are believed to be present in the derailed coaches.

    The injured persons have been rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. No casualty has been reported at the time of the incident.

    An enquiry has been ordered into the incident. The Railway officials are assessing why both trains were on the same track.

    The East Coast Railway has issued a helpline number – 1072 for information on the accident.
