    NIA Seizes 11 Items Including Laptop, Bank Passbook Of Akhil Gogoi

    He was sent to 10-day NIA custody on December 17th, 2019 by a special court in Guwahati and was taken to NIA Headquarters in New Delhi

    The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on December 26th, 2019 conducted a search at KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi’s Guwahati residence and has seized the copies of Pan card, Elector Photo Identity card, bank passbook, laptop among other items from his library room.

    A total of 11 items were seized from Akhil’ house located at Nizarapar, Chandmari. The search was conducted from 7 am to 10 am. Akhil will be produced at the NIA court in Guwahati on December 26th, 2019. A search operation has also been conducted at the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti’s office in Gandhibasti.

    At the time of the raid, Gitashree Tamuly, wife of Akhil and her brother Manoj Tamuly were present at the residence.

    He was arrested by Assam Police in Jorhat on December 12th, 2019 amid protests over the citizenship law. On December 13th, 2019, Guwahati police registered a suo moto case against him. The Assam government handed over the case to NIA on December 14th.

    He was booked him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) under Section 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 124 A (sedition), 153 A (unlawful association) and 153 B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 18/39 (punishment for conspiracy).
