Disgruntled AGP Workers Lock-Up Party Office In Guwahati

The cracks in the AGP were wide open as the workers demanded the resignation of its central committee members for supporting the controversial CAA

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) workers miffed with the stand of the party leadership on Citizenship Amendment Act on January 7th, 2020 locked up the main gate of the party’s head office at Ambari in Guwahati.

The disgruntled workers locked both the entry and exit gates of the party headquarters.
As per information, the grassroot party workers had organised a meeting.

Former Assam Chief Minister and veteran AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who was supposed to join the meeting, was seen passing by the office in his car.

As the situation got tensed, security personnel were rushed to the spot to counter any untoward incident.

The cracks in the AGP are wide open as the Guwahati City Committee of the party has earlier demanded the resignation of its central committee members for supporting the controversial CAA.

The committee said that the grassroots workers are not happy with the stand of the party leaders over CAA.

AGP legislators Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhusan Choudhury, who are also ministers in the BJP-led government in Assam, have been accused of maintaining a ‘safe stand and stoic silence’ on the act.

In 2019, three AGP leaders had resigned as state ministers and snapped ties with the BJP over the Citizenship Amendment Bill. However, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the AGP joined hands with the BJP.
