The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police raided the residence of Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha on December 26th, 2019 at Phukan Nagar, Sivasagar.
The raid was conducted from 6:45 am. The officials interrogated his family members and have also seized the mobile handset of Rakajyoti Chaliha, Shrinkhal ‘s mother.
He was arrested in Dibrugarh on December 23rd, 2019 and brought to Guwahati. Several leaders of the Lachit Sena were taken into custody by the police after an anti-CAA rally at Borboruah in Dibrugarh.
The CID has registered a case (30/2019) against Shrinkhal on charges of making provocative statements against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA).The case has been registered under Sections 120 (B) / 121 / 120 (A) / 121 (A) / 122 / 123 / 143 / 147 / 148 / 150 / 152/153/153(A)/326/333/353 of IPC.
Speaking to Time8, Pranabjit Chaliha, Shrinkhal’s father said, “I appeal the people of the Sivasagar and the state, to stand against the CAA. I appeal to the people of Sivsagar to lit five diyas in their house and business establishments to oppose the CAA. I also request people to observe ‘Black Out’ from 6 pm to 8 pm.”
Shrinkhal will be produced before the CJM court in Guwahati at 2 pm on December 26th, 2019. Senior advocate Upamanyu Hazarika to appear for the activist.
