    40 Protesters Detained In Silchar Amid Nationwide Shutdown

    As many as 40 protesters were detained by the security forces in Silchar in wake of the nationwide shutdown called by the trade union on January 8th, 2020.

    The protesters resorted to picketing at several offices and commercial areas which led to the detainment of the protesters.

    The police are keeping a hawk-eye to revert any untoward situation. Security has been beefed up at district headquarters including the Silchar town, Deputy Commissioner’s office.

    The 24-hour trade unions’ nationwide strike called today alleging “anti-working class policies of the Modi-led government” has affected normal life in Assam. Most of the business establishments, banking sectors have remained closed. Communication was hit as there are no plying of public transports on the roads.

    It may be noted, the trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with various independent federations and associations had adopted a declaration in September 2019 to go on a nationwide strike on January 8th, 2020.
