The former Member of Parliament and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) spokesperson, P D Rai claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the next government in Sikkim within the five-six months.
Rai further added that the recent political developments in Sikkim after switching over of 10 SDF MLAs to the saffron party have made it clear that the BJP will try to form “a strong and stable” government in the State. The 10 MLAs joined the BJP on August 13th, 2019 in the presence of the party’s working president JP Nadda and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.
Rai said that the BJP will work out with legislators of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha(SKM), predicting a split in the Party. He also asserted, “Some SKM legislators are sympathetic towards BJP.”
It may be mentioned, Prem Singh Tamang-led SKM came to power earlier this year after ending the 25-year rule of the SDF. Post the switchover of the SDF MLAs, the BJP, without winning a single seat in the Assembly polls, has become the main opposition party in Sikkim.
