Local MLA Pramod Borthakur on August 22nd, 2019 inaugurated a bamboo bridge connecting the students to their government primary school

Remember the viral video where school students in Sootea in Assam’s Biswanath district had to risk their lives every day to reach their school by crossing a gushing river in aluminium pots? Well, dark days are over now.

As the local MLA Pramod Borthakur on August 22nd, 2019 inaugurated a bamboo bridge connecting the students to their government primary school constructed on an island. The students were all smiles when the bridge was finally inaugurated by MLA Borthakur.

Inaugurating the bamboo bridge, Borthakur said, “From today, the students will have a hassle-free travel to their school because of the bridge. The students will no longer use aluminium pots or makeshift banana rafts to reach school. In fact, the locals too will now have a means of communication to carry out their daily activities.”

“I also promised the students to solve all the problems that the students face at their school regularly,” added Borthakur.

Post the inaugural ceremony of the bridge, the students here showed great enthusiasm and said, “Now we are worry-free because we don’t have to risk our lives anymore. This bridge has brought the zeal to go to school every day.”

A school teacher speaking media persons said, “We thank MLA Pramod Borthakur for hearing our problem and quickly reacting to it. This bridge has brought a new life to this village and now, we will have 100 per cent attendance in school.”

It may be mentioned here, in the month of September 2018 the video which displayed a group of students crossing a swiftly flowing river in aluminium pots to reach school on time went viral and received severe criticism from all walks of life.
