    Northeast Reports First Coronavirus Case, Manipur Woman Tests Positive

    The woman from Imphal (West) is stable and is being treated at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences

    A 23-year-old woman, with a travel history to the UK (England), has tested positive for the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on March 23rd, 2020. This is the first confirmed case of infection reported from Northeast India.

    The woman is said to be stable and is being treated at the isolation ward of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.

    She hails from Thangmeiband area of Imphal West.

    The Director of Health Services, Manipur started tracing the contacts who came in contact with the woman. They are directed to get in touch with the health department and start self-isolation.

    The Manipur government had ordered a complete lockdown of the state till March 31st, 2020 as a preventive measure to stop the spread of coronavirus. Essential services have been exempted from the purview of the lockdown.

    Isolation wards have been set up at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and JNIMS to treat coronavirus cases.

    The government has time and again urged the citizens to follow the home quarantine norms and not hide any signs and symptoms of the coronavirus.
