Bhaichung Bhutia Shuts Down Former I-League Club United Sikkim FC

The United Sikkim FC was founded in 2004 by Bhaichung Bhutia, Sherap Lepcha and Arjun Rai

Former I-League club United Sikkim Football Club (USFC) on September 22nd, 2019 decided to shut shop to “focus on grassroot football” and avoid “conflict of interest” issues arising within the association. Bhaichung along with two other co-founders said that the USFC will cease to exist from today.

“From a long time, I have not been able to give quality time to the club and we felt we should close the club. This has been a very difficult decision for us to take after nurturing it for 15 years,” he said while addressing media persons on September 22nd, 2019.

He added, “We launched the club with great zeal and struggled all the way to continue. The USFC is the only club from Sikkim to play in the I-League and the second club from Northeast India. We are the also team which won the first LD Kaji cup and to play Durand Cup, Federation Cup.”

The USFC was founded in 2004 by Bhaichung, Sherap Lepcha and Arjun Rai. On March 22nd, 2011 the first kit and crest of United Sikkim were unveiled at a function held at the Taj Hotel in Kolkata.
