    Barbaruah Tea Estate Case: Man Accused Of Killing Adivasi Girl Arrested In Dibrugarh

    The Barbaruah police on August 19th, 2019 arrested a man for allegedly being involved in the death of a 21-year-old Adivasi girl in Dibrugarh district of Assam. The arrested person has been identified as Bishal Karmakar alias Taklu.

    The body of the girl was recovered by the garden workers lying among the bushes at Barbaruah Tea Estate in Dibrugarh on August 17th, 2019. The tea garden workers also spotted a noose around the neck of the victim.

    The family members and local resident alleged that the girl was raped before she was murdered. The deceased used to work as a domestic maid in the staff quarters at the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Ltd township.

    The recovery of the girl’s body enraged the tea garden workers and they gheraoed the Barbaruah police station on August 17th, 2019, seeking punishment for the guilty. The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association had also threatened to launch a mass agitation if the police fail to arrest the culprits within 24 hours.
