An alleged Bangladeshi cattle smuggler was shot dead in an encounter with the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Karimganj district.
As per reports, the incident happened when more than 15-20 Bangladeshis suspected to be cattle smugglers tried to enter the Indian territory through the Fulkandi BOP. There was an encounter and one person died after being hit with pellets from a pump-action gun in the wee hours of August 24th, 2019.

The alleged cattle smuggler has been identified as Abdul Ruf, hailing from Sylhet division of Bangladesh. A wire cutter, three machetes, one mobile phone and a wallet were recovered from the possession of the deceased.
As per information available, the firing took place when the group of alleged cattle smuggler tried to enter Indian through a tear in the barbed wire fencing on the border. The other members of the group managed to escape from the spot.
