    Assam To Host ‘Grassroot Olympics’ To Identify Young Talent

    Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal took charge as the president of the Assam Olympic Association on November 10th, 2019

    In a bid to promote sports and spot talent from Assam’s villages, the government has decided to host ‘Grassroot Olympics’. The sporting event will be held across five age categories, informed Assam Chief Minister and former Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

    Sonowal on November 18th, 2019 chaired his first Executive Meeting as president of Assam Olympic Association in Guwahati. He took charge as the president of the Assam Olympic Association on November 10th, 2019.

    A new state-of-the-art sports complex of Assam Olympic Association will also be built in Guwahati.

    The Chief Minister appealed all to join hands to make sports a mass movement by encouraging talent at the grassroots.

    Sonowal enjoyed a two-year stint as the Union Sports Minister before he quit to take oath as the14th chief minister of Assam in May 2016.
